The National Day of Prayer (NDOP), held on the first Thursday of May, is an annual observance inviting people to pray for the nation. The National Day of Prayer observance was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Truman. Each year since then our president has called upon the citizens of our nation to pray, and in 1988 President Reagan established this day of prayer to be the First Thursday of May. The significance for us as a nation is that it enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our founders sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical challenges and decisions. It stands as a call for us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people.
The 2024 Theme stands as a call to pray the promises of Scripture and bring light a world in need: “LIFT UP THE WORD – LIGHT UP THE WORLD” inspired from scripture in 2 Samuel 22:29-31 ESV “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”
Constitution Party of Georgia State Chairman Ricardo Davis noted, “Our state party convention delegates have regularly declared our submission to the Lord Jesus Christ in our efforts. There is no hope nor greatness for America in a Christ-less conservatism that presumes our constitutional liberties can be upheld while winking at the high-handed sins of our day: elective abortion as a reproductive 'right', all manner of sexual perversion as an individual 'right', elected officials plundering the public treasury from City Hall to Washington, D.C. driving us to financial ruin, and white-washing a spiritual effeminacy that craves the approval of people in this world over obedience to King Jesus and His Word. To think we could affect change in our communities apart from joining together with believers in humble prayer for God’s wisdom and guidance has contributed to our national crisis. Governor Brian Kemp has officially recognized a day of prayer in response to this national observance. I encourage every party supporter to take the opportunity on Thursday, May 2, 2024 to join one of the many NDOP observances across Georgia, or volunteer at an observance in your community.”
The Lord poured out immense creativity on the tens of thousands of volunteers who planed over 60,000 events in all 50 states last year. In 2024, we will see thousands of Americans faithfully join local prayer rallies—all crying out praises and prayers in accordance with the power and promises found in the Bible. At every National Day of Prayer Task Force event, leaders prayed in the name of Jesus and asked the Lord to bless those who lead and those in need across our nation.
The National Day of Prayer Task Force is led by president Kathy Branzell and governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, who also preside over the National Prayer Committee. The mission of the NDP Task Force is to mobilize unified, public Prayer in America.
The efforts of the National Day of Prayer Task Force are carried out in accordance with its Judeo-Christian beliefs. The National Day of Prayer, as designated by our government, belongs to all Americans—it is not owned by any one group, and every American can observe NDP in their own way. Everyone is invited to attend a NDP Task Force event to hear messages and prayers in the name of Jesus Christ. We pray for Jesus to bless those who lead and those in need throughout our country.
