The Ballot Access Hurdle for New Parties

Thom Holmes answers the question of "Why aren't the Constitution Party's candidates on my ballot?

"How come I can't vote for one of those new parties? Why do I have to vote for only a Democrat or Republican? What about the Constitution Party, I hear they want smaller government?"

I hear comments like this all the time and sense the frustration in many people's voices. The vast majority of folks have NO idea that the Republican and Democrats have kept all the other parties from participating in our electoral process. Many Americans are surprised to learn of the difficulties new political parties must overcome simply to have their party's candidates' names appear on the November election ballots. In Texas for instance, minor parties must collect 75,000 signatures in 75 days!
