FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Source: Constitution Party of Georgia August 15, 2003 Georgia Constitution Party Supports Ten Commandments JudgeATLANTA In a public statement, the Constitution Party of Georgia lent its full support to Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore and his effort to recognize God and the Ten Commandments as foundations of the system of justice in Alabama.
Among the expected thousands joining the rally on Saturday, August 16th in Montgomery will be delegates from the Constitution Party of Georgia. We are rallying people together statewide, said Ricardo Davis, the Chairman of the Constitution Party of Georgia, and we are endeavoring to work with the Christian Coalition, Eagle Forum, and other sympathetic organizations to support Judge Moore and our southern neighbors in Alabama.
This is about more than what decorates the government buildings in Alabama, Davis continued. This demands an answer to the question of whether the federal government should have the ability to prohibit the people of a state and of this nation from recognizing God as the source of our liberty through their elected representatives. The preamble to the Constitution of the State of Georgia states, ...we the people of Georgia, relying upon the protection and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish this Constitution. They are first trying to censure Justice Moore and Alabama, but they wont stop there. Georgia and the people of any other State that dares to give God His due recognition will be next.
If we do not speak up now and oppose this attempt by the federal courts to illicitly use federal power, tyranny will prevail! Davis clarified, The First Amendment states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is not Congress and neither is Alabama Governor Bob Riley; therefore they do not come under the prohibition of the First Amendment.
On Saturday, thousands of Alabama citizens will converge upon their state capitol with their state motto on their lips, We Dare Defend Our Rights! The Constitution Party of Georgia will join their cause, Davis continued. We also encourage Georgia Republican Party Chairman Alec Poitevint and Georgia Democrat Party Chairman Calvin Smyre along with their respective organizations to join us in standing with Alabama citizens in defending their constitutional rights.
