RHC ready to help its own and other hurricane victims

Regency Hospital Company poised to help its own and other hurricane victims

Friends of the American Republic,

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I have been saddened by the prevailing attitude that the job of cleaning up the mess and restoring peoples lives is the responsbility and duty of President Bush and various government entities. But as businesses in communities throughout the countryside seek to honor God by quickly providing the right help where it is needed to their employees and clients in a timely fashion, they protect the Republic from the crippling socialist attitude that demands bread and shelter from the government.

Regency Hospital is an example of the leadership described in the Constitution Party platform on Welfare:

God, who endows us with life, liberty, property, and the right to pursue happiness, also exhorts individuals to care for the needy, the sick, the homeless, the aged, and those who are otherwise unable to care for themselves...

The message of Christian charity is fundamentally at odds with the concept of welfare maintenance as a right. In many cases, welfare provisions by the Federal government are not only misdirected, but morally destructive. It is the intended purpose of civil government to safeguard life, liberty and property - not to redistribute wealth. Such redistribution is contrary to the Biblical command against theft.

We encourage individuals, families, churches, civic groups and other private organizations, to fulfill their personal responsibility to help those in need.

REGENCY HOSPITAL COMPANY POISED TO HELP ITS OWN AND OTHER HURRICANE VICTIMS

Alpharetta, Georgia, September 2, 2005 --- Atlanta based, Regency Hospital Company had three hospitals in the path of Hurricane Katrina. Regency evacuated its patients from Regency Hospital of Covington to another local hospital and has since transferred them due to loss of generated power and supplies. Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg and Meridian have maintained operations through less than adequate conditions. “We have nurses and staff who are true heroes here”, said Steve Laughlin, CEO of Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg. “They have worked around the clock without once lamenting their own personal situation, sometimes not even knowing the status of their own family members. They have put the needs of their patients first,” he continued. But that is not all, Regency has been a source for community strength and resource as even its corporate office and its hospital employees across the country have rallied together to give funds, offer prayers and volunteer to help in any way possible.

Late Wednesday evening after Atlanta corporate employees had gone home for the day, an email requesting immediate help was sent to all corporate employees for help with supplies. Apparently, one of the Regency Hospital of Greenville (SC) nurses was taking a trailer to help his parents stranded in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Less than 12 hours later Regency corporate employees had divided into teams scouring North Atlanta for supplies. They brought back more water and supplies than imaginable to take to the Regency Hospitals needing help. “The outpouring of compassion and commitment for fellow Regency employees has been humbling,” said Rod Laughlin, President.

Regency Hospital Company is so committed to helping its employees that it created the Regency Cares Foundation, a nonprofit organization to help those Regency employees and others affected by Hurricane Katrina. “We want to let the people of Louisiana and Mississippi know that we love and support them. That is what the Regency Cares Foundation is all about”, said Laughlin. People interested in donating money may make checks payable to the Regency Cares Foundation. Checks may be mailed to the Regency corporate office located at 30000 Mill Creek Avenue, Suite 250 Alpharetta, GA 30022.
